Human Design Basics: Read Your Own User Manual

Awareness β Authenticity β Action
Most of us got handed a life with no instructions. We learned to work the way our parents worked. We copied the hustle of the loudest person in the office. Then we wondered why we felt wiped out by 3 p.m.
Human Design gives you a different starting point. You enter your birth date, birth time, and birth place. You get a chart called a bodygraph. It maps nine centers, a Type, a Strategy, and an Authority. Think of it as the user manual you never received.
We built Human Design Basics for people who keep hearing about it and want a clear way in. No jargon wall. No belief system you have to swallow whole. You get a framework you can test against your own life, starting this week.
Here's how we'd have you begin.
π§ Start With Your Type
Human Design sorts people into five Types. Each one describes how your energy tends to move through the world.
- Generators (roughly 37% of people) have steady, renewable energy for work they love.
- Manifesting Generators (about 33%) have that same fuel, plus speed. They often juggle several projects at once.
- Projectors (around 20%) see people and systems clearly. They're built to guide, not grind.
- Manifestors (about 9%) start things. They move best when nobody slows them down.
- Reflectors (close to 1%) sample the energy around them. They mirror the health of their community.
Treat your Type as a hypothesis, not a verdict. That one shift keeps the work honest.
Try this: Pull your free chart. Find your Type. Then write down one moment from last month that matched the description, and one that didn't. You'll learn more from that list than from any article.
π Follow Your Strategy for 30 Days
Each Type comes with a Strategy. It's a simple rule for how to engage with life so you meet less resistance.
Generators wait to respond. Something shows up, and your gut lights up or goes flat. Manifesting Generators respond first, then tell people what they're doing. Projectors wait for the invitation, especially for big things like jobs and partnerships. Manifestors inform the people affected before they act. Reflectors take time, ideally a full lunar cycle of about 28 days, before major decisions.
The chart also names a warning signal for each Type. Generators feel frustration. Projectors feel bitterness. Manifestors feel anger. Reflectors feel disappointment. When that feeling shows up, it usually means you've drifted off your Strategy.
Picture a Projector who keeps offering advice in meetings nobody asked for. The ideas are good. They land badly. She walks out bitter, again. Now picture her waiting until someone asks, "What do you see here?" Same insight. Completely different reception.
Try this: Run a 30-day experiment. Each evening, jot one line about where you followed your Strategy and one line about where you didn't. Note your warning signal. Patterns show up fast, usually by the second week.
β―οΈ Let Your Authority Make the Call
Strategy tells you how to engage. Authority tells you how to decide. This is where most people feel the biggest change.
About half of all people have Emotional Authority. Your clarity comes in waves, so the right move is to wait. Sleep on it. Notice how the decision feels on a calm day and on a rough one. Snap decisions rarely serve you.
Sacral Authority speaks through gut sounds. An "uh-huh" means yes. An "unh-unh" means no. It's fast and surprisingly reliable once you stop overriding it.
Splenic Authority is a quiet, instant knowing. It speaks once and doesn't repeat itself. Other Authorities exist too, and the course walks through every one.
Here's a concrete example. A manager with Emotional Authority starts using one sentence: "Let me get back to you tomorrow." That's it. Within a month, she's turning down the projects that used to bury her.
Try this: Pick one pending decision. Apply your Authority on purpose. Write down what you'd have chosen on autopilot, then compare.
π± Read Your Open Centers as Places You Absorb
Your bodygraph shows nine centers. Some are colored in (defined). Some are white (open). Defined centers are consistent parts of you. Open centers take in and amplify energy from the people around you.
Open centers aren't flaws. They're where you pick up wisdom about other people. They're also where you lose yourself if you're not paying attention.
Say your Head center is open. You might feel pressure to answer every question anyone raises, even ones that don't matter to you. With an open Solar Plexus, you might soak up a coworker's mood and dodge conflict to keep the room calm. Spotting this gives you options.
Try this: Choose one open center. For a week, ask yourself a simple question when you feel off: "Is this mine?" Often the answer is no.
β¨ The Mini-Formula
Keep this on a sticky note:
Type β Strategy β Authority = Decisions That Fit You
Know how your energy works. Engage the way you're built to engage. Decide from your body, not from pressure. Then repeat.
π What You'll Walk Away With
Human Design Basics keeps things practical. You'll learn to pull and read your chart without getting lost in the details. You'll understand your Type, Strategy, and Authority in plain language. You'll work through short exercises and a 30-day practice log. You'll also learn how to talk about this with your team or partner without sounding like you joined a club.
We treat Human Design as a tool for self-reflection. You test it. You keep what's useful. You let go of the rest.
