Acquire to Grow: A Smarter Way to Buy Growth

    🧭 Growth isn't a destination. It's a daily rhythm.

Most founders try to build every new capability from scratch. New market, new team, new product, all grown slowly over years. There's another path. You can buy it.

Buying growth scares people because they've watched deals blow up. Overpaid, over-promised, badly integrated. That fear is fair. But the fix isn't avoiding acquisitions. The fix is doing them with a thesis and a checklist instead of a gut feeling.

That's what we built this course around. In 21 days you write your acquisition thesis and pressure-test a real target against it.

🎯 Start with a thesis, not a target

The biggest mistake is falling in love with a company before you know why you want it. Someone forwards you a deal, the numbers look interesting, and suddenly you're negotiating.

Work backwards instead. Decide what you're actually buying. Is it revenue? A customer base? An engineering team? A patent? Write one sentence that says why this type of acquisition moves your business forward.

A thesis gives you a filter. When 20 deals cross your desk, you can reject 18 in five minutes each. You spend real time only on the two that fit.

πŸ’Ό Pressure-test the target before you fall for it

Once you have a target, your job is to try to kill the deal. Not defend it. Kill it. If it survives your hardest questions, then you have something real.

Here are the questions we drill in the course:

    • Why is the seller selling right now? The honest answer changes your price.
    • What breaks if you remove the founder on day one?
    • How much of the revenue is concentrated in three customers?
    • What does the business look like 18 months after integration, staffed by your people?

Most targets fail two or three of these. That's good. Better to find the crack now than after you wire the money.

🌱 Price is what you pay, structure is what protects you

New buyers obsess over the headline number. Experienced buyers obsess over structure. You can pay a fair multiple and still lose everything if the deal terms are wrong.

Earnouts tie part of the price to future performance. Seller notes keep the previous owner motivated. Escrow holds back cash against surprises you find later. These tools shift risk off your balance sheet and onto the outcome.

A target valued at 4x earnings with a soft integration plan can be worse than a 6x target with a clean handover and a two-year earnout. Learn to see past the sticker.

🀝 Integration is where deals live or die

The deal closes and the hard part begins. Roughly 70% of acquisitions underperform, and almost none of that is because the price was slightly off. It's integration. Two cultures, two systems, two email tools, colliding.

Write your first 100 days plan before you sign, not after. Decide who stays, what gets merged, and what stays separate on purpose. Tell the acquired team what's changing and what isn't, in the first week. Silence breeds resignations.

Small wins in the first month buy you goodwill for the harder changes later. Pick one thing to fix fast and visibly.

    ✨ The mini-formula

    Thesis β†’ Target β†’ Pressure-Test β†’ Structure β†’ Integrate.

Skip a step and you gamble. Follow it and you turn acquisition from a coin flip into a repeatable skill.

πŸš€ What you walk away with

By day 21 you'll have a written acquisition thesis you can defend to a partner or a lender. You'll have run a real target through the full pressure-test. You'll know whether to walk or keep going, and you'll know why.

This isn't theory. We work on a live target you bring, or one from our library if you're just starting. You leave with documents, not just notes.

We don't teach what's popular. We teach what works. Buying growth well is a craft, and craft can be learned.
