The Personal Board: Building Your Circle of Truth-Tellers
The Personal Board isn't networking. It's a curated circle of truth-tellers who see your blind spots, call your patterns, and hold you to the leader you're becoming. This 21-day course moves you from isolated decision-making (Awareness) to intentional vulnerability with the right people (Authenticity) to a functioning advisory circle that makes you sharper, faster, and less alone (Action).
Six shifts. One new you. π±
A written mandate defining who sits on your board, what you need from them, and how often you convene.
The exact ask you'll use to invite each member, tailored to what they uniquely see in you.
You will have run your inaugural board meeting with agenda, roles, and a real decision on the table.
A documented view of your strategic, interpersonal, and operational gaps as named by people you trust.
The framework your board uses to pressure-test your thinking without becoming a veto committee.
A quarterly cadence locked in your calendar, with pre-reads, focus questions, and follow-up commitments.
- You're a CEO, founder, or executive who makes decisions other people's livelihoods depend on.
- You have access to smart people but lack a group with permission to tell you when you're wrong.
- You've outgrown peer groups that talk about problems you solved five years ago.
- You're ready to be uncomfortably honest with a small circle in exchange for decisions you trust more.
- β You want a networking group or a feel-good accountability buddy system.
- β You believe asking for help is a career-limiting signal, even in private.
- β You're not prepared to give the same level of candid challenge you're asking to receive.
A curriculum designed to move you π§
Why the corner office is the loneliest room. You'll map the decisions you're making alone, audit who currently influences your thinking, and name the gaps between the challenges you face and the counsel you're getting. You'll finish Module 1 with a written case for why you need a personal board and what specifically it must do.
Not every smart person belongs on your board. You'll define selection criteria based on domain coverage, relational trust, and challenge style. You'll draft invitations to specific people using a recruiter's brief that earns a yes. By the end of Module 2, you'll have identified and approached your first three board members.
Structure turns good intentions into recurring value. You'll design your board's operating rhythm, build the session format, prepare your first real case, and facilitate the inaugural meeting. This module produces a functioning board with documented insights and follow-up commitments.
One meeting isn't a board. You'll install the quarterly cadence, the pre-work routine, the follow-up discipline, and the renewal process. You'll also build your reciprocity plan so this circle remains generative, not extractive. You'll leave with a board that runs itself and a leadership practice that compounds.

The Exponential Coach π€
The Exponential Coach has spent two decades in the rooms where founders become CEOs and CEOs become industry architects. With 1,500+ leaders coached across six continents, the methodology behind this course was built in boardrooms, crisis war rooms, and late-night strategy sessions with people whose next call could move markets.
This course distills the personal board model used by clients running nine-figure companies, scaling moonshots, and navigating public-stage decisions. It's the structured loneliness solution the instructor wishes had existed during the hardest leadership transitions.
Growth, in their own words π
Composite student voices representing typical outcomes.
"I thought I needed better data. Turns out I needed three people with permission to say 'that's your ego talking, not your strategy.' My personal board saved me from a acquisition I would have regretted within six months."
Marcus van der Berg, CEO, Amsterdam (composite student voice)
"The recruiter's brief was uncomfortably specific, which is exactly why it worked. I invited people I'd never have asked for help before, and they said yes because the ask was clear and the value exchange was real."
Sofia Mendoza, Founder, Barcelona (composite student voice)
"I've been in a dozen peer groups. This is different. My board doesn't commiserate, it challenges. The protocol keeps it constructive, but I leave every session with at least one decision I'm changing."
Henrik Larsen, Board Director, Copenhagen (composite student voice)
FAQ β―οΈ
I already have advisors and a formal board. Why do I need this?+
Advisors work for equity or fees. Formal boards govern fiduciary duty. A personal board has no legal standing and no commercial interest in your company. They're there because you asked them to make you better. The lack of formal structure is the entire pointβit creates space for the conversations you can't have anywhere else.
How do I find people who will actually tell me the truth?+
The course includes selection criteria that filter for candor capacity, not just domain expertise. You'll learn to spot who has both the courage and the care to challenge you. Most leaders already know three people who fit; they've just never given them explicit permission and a structure to do it.
What if I invite someone and they say no?+
The recruiter's brief is designed to earn a yes by being specific about time commitment, value exchange, and what you need from them. That said, some will decline. The course includes a pipeline approach so one no doesn't stall the build. Rejection is data about fit, not about you.
How much time does running a personal board actually take?+
Quarterly sessions run 90 to 120 minutes. Pre-work is 30 minutes for you, 20 for each board member. Follow-up is integrated into your normal operating rhythm. Total annual investment: roughly 12 hours of sessions plus preparation. Compare that to the cost of one major decision made in isolation.
Can I do this if I'm geographically distributed or remote?+
Yes. Most personal boards meet virtually. The course includes facilitation techniques optimized for video, async pre-work formats, and time-zone coordination tactics. Physical proximity helps but isn't required. What matters is psychological proximity and structured cadence.
