Team Friction: Resolving Conflict Between Your People

Most managers try to smooth over team conflict or force a truce. Neither works. This 10-day course teaches you to surface the real interests behind the positions your people are defending, then guide them to a solution they own. You'll move from Awareness of what's actually driving the friction, to Authenticity in naming it without taking sides, to Action as you mediate one live conflict and install a repeatable resolution process.

Six shifts. One new you. 🌱

    Diagnose the real conflict

Separate positions from interests so you're solving the actual problem, not the symptom.

    Mediate without taking sides

Hold space for both people while staying neutral and guiding them to co-create the fix.

    Script the hard conversation

Build a facilitation plan with exact phrases that keep emotions down and focus up.

    Turn friction into clarity

Use conflict to expose unclear roles, mismatched expectations, or broken workflows you can fix.

    Follow through properly

Install agreements with checkpoints so the conflict doesn't quietly restart three weeks later.

Teach them to resolve it themselves

Give your team a shared conflict language so they bring fewer fights to your door.

    This is for you if…
    • You manage a team and two people are currently stuck in recurring friction
    • You've tried talking to them separately but the tension keeps resurfacing
    • You want a step-by-step method, not vague advice to 'facilitate dialogue'
    • You're ready to mediate one real conflict during this course, not just learn theory
This is not for you if…
    • βœ• You're looking for a magic phrase that makes conflict disappear (it won't)
    • βœ• You need HR-level performance management or legal advice on disciplinary issues
    • βœ• You'd rather avoid the conversation and hope they figure it out alone

    01
    Awareness: What's Really Happening Here

Days 1-3. Map the conflict properly. Learn to separate surface positions from underlying interests, identify your own biases, and distinguish personality clashes from structural problems. You'll diagnose one live team conflict by the end of day three.

    02
    Authenticity: Naming It Without Drama

Days 4-6. Build your neutral facilitator voice. Script the initial conversation with both parties, practice holding space without solving for them, and learn when to meet separately versus together. You'll prep your mediation plan.

    03
    Action: The Mediation Session

Days 7-9. Facilitate the live conflict resolution. Use the interests-behind-positions framework in real time, guide both people to co-create agreements, and document commitments with built-in checkpoints. You'll run the actual mediation.

    04
    Integration: Making It Stick

Days 10-14. Follow up without hovering, reinforce the agreements, teach your team basic conflict tools so they self-resolve next time, and extract the structural fixes the conflict revealed. You'll close the loop and prevent round two.

    The Exponential Coach 🀝

The Exponential Coach has spent twenty years inside leadership teams where unresolved friction quietly kills performance. After mediating hundreds of peer conflicts as a manager, department head, and executive coach, they built a conflict-resolution method that works even when people are dug in. Their approach: surface interests, stay neutral, make agreements concrete. No therapy speak, no forced apologies, just honest facilitation that gets two professionals back to productive.

They've trained over 1,500 leaders across industries to turn team friction from a recurring headache into a diagnostic tool. If two people are stuck, something structural is broken. Fix the conflict, find the system flaw, and your team gets stronger. This course gives you the exact mediation process they use with clients who pay five figures for conflict coaching.

Composite student voices representing typical outcomes.

"I'd been avoiding a conflict between two senior engineers for six weeks. Day 7 gave me the exact script. I facilitated the session, they surfaced a role-boundary issue we'd never clarified, and they're collaborating again. Munich, engineering lead."

    Stefan K. (composite student voice)

"I used to pick sides without realizing it. The interests-behind-positions lens completely changed how I listen. Mediated a sales-ops conflict that had festered for months, and both people thanked me afterward. London, sales manager."

    Priya R. (composite student voice)

"The follow-up structure in days 10-14 is what made it stick. I've seen other managers 'resolve' things that just go underground. This course taught me how to close the loop properly. Toronto, operations manager."

    FAQ ☯️

What if the conflict is really personal, not work-related?+

Even personal friction shows up as work problems: missed handoffs, tense meetings, silent treatment. You're not mediating their friendship. You're facilitating an agreement on how they work together. The course teaches you to redirect personal complaints into professional commitments.

Do both people need to agree to the mediation?+

You're the manager. You can require the conversation. The course shows you how to frame it as problem-solving, not punishment, so they show up ready to engage. If one person flat-out refuses after a fair setup, that's a different conversation (and the course covers that boundary too).

What if I mediate and they still can't agree?+

Then you make the call. Mediation isn't consensus theatre. The goal is to surface interests, explore options, and let them co-create the fix. If they're stuck, you decide, document it, and move on. Day 9 covers exactly when to shift from facilitator to decision-maker.

Can I use this method for conflicts I'm personally involved in?+

Not directly. When you're a party to the conflict, you need a peer or your own manager to facilitate. But the interests-behind-positions framework works everywhere: you can use it in your own difficult conversations, just not as the neutral mediator.

How much time does the actual mediation take?+

The live session typically runs 45 to 90 minutes depending on complexity. You'll spend about an hour prepping (covered in days 4-6) and 30 minutes on follow-up checkpoints over the next two weeks (days 10-14). Total investment: roughly four hours to resolve a conflict that's currently costing you hours every week.
